Abstract

This proposal aims to design and evaluate a dual-mode optical gas sensor based on a dual-channel integrated hollow waveguide (iHWG) system for detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs) relevant to medical diagnostics. The sensor will combine direct absorption in the mid-infrared (MIR) region or UV in one channel, with indirect photoluminescence detection in the second channel from iHWG, utilizing functionalized glass substrates coated with lanthanide complexes and double halide perovskites. The proposal includes the synthesis of photoluminescent material and functionalization onto glass substrate, the fabrication of dual channel iHWGs, and performance evaluation using VOCs such as acetone and limonene. The platform's performance will be assessed in terms of detection limits, quantification limits, selectivity, and specificity. This innovative sensor aims to improve the specificity and selectivity of advanced sensing technologies, with potential applications in healthcare diagnostics.
