Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an increasing threat to global public health. Although a global plan to contain AMR has been on the WHO agenda since 2015, substantial deficiencies in implementing the proposed actions persist in countries worldwide. One of the main barriers described in the literature is the lack of integration of AMR containment plans into national health system policies, resulting in fragmented and ineffective approaches.This postdoctoral project aims to analyze Brazil's response to antimicrobial resistance by investigating the challenges of building a national agenda and implementing coordinated policies within the Unified Health System (SUS). The project seeks to support policymakers and health system managers in designing, implementing, and evaluating innovative strategies to contain AMR, with a primary focus on the state of São Paulo.The research also aims to contribute to the establishment of an Advanced Center in AMR as part of the Cepid ARIES Project, to assist policymakers and health system managers in developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative strategies to combat AMR within the Unified Health System (SUS), with a particular focus on São Paulo state. Additionally, an international research mission will be conducted to strengthen academic partnerships and analyze the responses of other health systems to AMR, comparing local efforts with those of other countries and translating global initiatives (PAHO, WHO, OECD) into local practices.
