Abstract

The area of nanotechnology has been actively explored for the purposes of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of different diseases. The development of new drug delivery systems accounts for around 75% of product sales in the field of nanomedicine. Although revolutionary and growing in the current market, drug delivery systems still offer challenges, especially when it comes to encapsulating peptide structures. Understanding how these nanostructures interact with biological barriers is essential for advancing protein delivery. Within this context, the present study aims to elucidate the skin penetration capacity of proteins encapsulated in poloxamer 401 polymersomes and mixed poloxamer 401/PEG-PCL polymersomes. Polymersomes containing nanoencapsulated BSA-FITC will be obtained by hydration of the polymeric film and characterized by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. The penetration/permeation of BSA-FITC into the skin will be investigated in vitro in Franz cells using pig ear skin and quantifying the fluorescence of BSA-FITC in the different layers of the skin.
