Abstract

The general aim of this project is to clarify the concepts of feedback and debriefing in the context of simulation-based teaching, based on evidence from the literature. The specific aims are 1)To analyze and compile the main feedback and debriefing practices recommended in simulation-based teaching; 2)To identify the antecedents and consequences of the concepts of feedback and debriefing; and 3)To determine in which competencies and in what ways feedback and debriefing have been applied in simulation-based teaching. This is a scoping review study. The selection of studies will be guided by the question: "How are debriefing and feedback applied in health teaching strategies in the context of clinical simulations?" The search will be conducted in the following databases: National Library of Medicine (PubMed), SCOPUS, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and Web of Science. The search strategy will include the following health descriptors and alternative terms: Learning; Health Education; Simulation Training; Debriefing; Feedback. Primary studies, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, meta-syntheses, integrative reviews, books, and gray literature will be included. The search protocol has been registered on the Open Science Framework (OSF) platform under DOI: 10.17605/OSF.IO/J6CBN. EndNote software will be used for reference management. The included studies will be numbered and designated as study (E), analyzed according to the proposed objectives, and presented in tables and a discursive report. The PRISMA extension for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guideline and checklist will be used to present the results (Tricco et al., 2018).
