Abstract

Background: Advanced nursing practice is based on a framework of specialized knowledge, complex decision-making skills and advanced clinical competencies exercised independently or collaboratively, in favor of access to health services and universal coverage. Globally recognized, it encompasses a diversity of titles spread across various areas of nursing, but with no clear definitions in the perioperative field, with no exceptions linked to the care process in the immediate postoperative period in the post-anesthetic recovery room. Objective: To map the production of knowledge on the role of advanced practice nurses in the post-anesthetic recovery room. Method: The proposed review will be conducted according to the JBI methodology for scoping reviews. The databases searched will include MEDLINE and CINAHL, LILACS and BDENF, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Embase and Web of Science Core Collection. Searches on ProQuest, Google Scholar and websites will be carried out to identify gray literature. Consultation with experts and representative bodies will be carried out to provide additional references. Studies including the role of advanced practice nurses in the immediate postoperative period in intensive care units, wards and home care will not be examined. No restrictions on language, type of study, geographical delimitation or year will be applied. The selection of studies and data extraction will be carried out independently by two reviewers, after a previous pilot test of the tools. Any disagreements will be resolved by consensus or with a third reviewer. The analysis will be descriptive and categorized according to the objectives. Visual formats will be used to present the results
