Abstract

Sepsis is a severe health condition characterized by a dysregulated inflammatory response to an infection, which can progress to septic shock and death. The increasing incidence of sepsis, coupled with high mortality rates and substantial hospital costs, highlights the importance of early detection and appropriate management. This study aims to evaluate adherence to the measures recommended by the Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) in the emergency department of a public hospital in the interior of São Paulo, before and after the implementation of an institutional sepsis protocol. A comparative analysis will be conducted using the medical records of patients with suspected or confirmed sepsis who were treated between January and July 2024 (pre-implementation of the protocol) and between October 2024 and March 2025 (post-implementation). Sociodemographic variables, clinical admission variables, and variables related to the care provided will be collected. Descriptive analyses of simple frequencies and central tendency analyses for continuous variables will be performed. The association between adherence to recommendations and outcomes will be analyzed using Pearson's chi-square test. The data collected is expected to demonstrate improvements in adherence to SSC measures and their relationship with patient clinical outcomes, as well as contribute to the standardization of protocols and optimization of care in emergency units.
