Abstract

This research project aims to evaluate the effect of the functionalization of antimicrobial agents into composite resins for 3D printing of provisional and "permanent" restorations, focusing on their biological properties. Two antimicrobial agents: nitrogen and fluorine co-doped titanium dioxide nanoparticles (0, 10, 20, 30, and 40% vol/vol.) and the monomer 1,3,5-triacryloylhexahydro-1,3,5-triazine (0, 5, 10, 20% wt) will be incorporated into a resin for 3D printing of provisional (Prizma 3D Bio Prov, Makertech Labs) and "permanent" restorations (Prizma 3D Bio Crown, Makertech Labs). Sample preparation will be made using a 3D printer, according to the specifications and quantities necessary for each evaluation method: 1- Cell viability assay - SRB (n=5), 2- Cell viability assay - MTT (n=5), 3- Direct contact inhibition (n=5), 4- Antibacterial activity evaluation against planktonic bacteria (n=5), 5- High-throughput bioluminescence assay (n=18) and 6- Three-dimensional distribution of biofilm components (nucleic acids, proteins, and EPS) using a concurrent staining protocol and confocal microscopy analysis (n=3). The results obtained will be analyzed using SPSS software, and if normality and homoscedasticity assumptions are met, then analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's test (p<0.05) will be applied.
