Abstract

This study aims to investigate the influence of aging on the surface roughness and antibacterial potential of resin infiltrants. The groups will be formed by the following infiltrants: 1) Experimental Pure (EP) [75% TEGDMA, 25% BisEMA, 0.5% camphorquinone (CQ) and 1% ethyl 4-dimethylaminobenzoate (EDAB)], 2) EP + 2.5% DMAHDM, 3) EP + 5% DMAHDM, 4) EP + 2% NACP, 5) EP + 2.5% DMAHDM + 2% NACP, 6) EP + 5% DMAHDM + 2% NACP and 7) commercial control Icon® (DMG, Germany). Disc-shaped specimens (5 mm diameter x 2 mm thickness) will be prepared for each group from polyvinyl siloxane matrices. Surface roughness will be analyzed using a rugosimeter (Mitutoyo Surftest SJ-410, São Paulo, SP, Brazil) before and after simulated aging through thermal cycling. The antibacterial potential will be analyzed before and after aging through the bacterial metabolism assay (MTT), after cultivation of Streptococcus mutans biofilm for 48 hours on the specimens. The absorbance means will be obtained using a microplate reader (ASYS-UVM 340). The data will be analyzed for normality and homoscedasticity, and statistical analysis will be performed with appropriate tests with a significance level of 5%. (AU)
