Abstract

The objective is to investigate the relationship between transformations in the urban fabric and the impacts of recent extreme climate events by analyzing the municipalities in Vale do Taquari (Lajeado, Estrela and Cruzeiro do Sul), a region intensely affected by recent climate disasters and whose cities show signs of transformations linked to regional infrastructures. The research is justified in view of the recognition of recent transformations in the urban fabric of Brazilian municipalities, linked to the processes of territorial metropolization and urban dispersion, and the intensification of the impacts of extreme weather events on cities, the preponderant example of which is the sequence of disasters in Rio Grande do Sul since April 2024. The research project is structured around the central argument that there is a relationship between urbanization processes, the transformation of urban fabrics and the intensification of the consequences of the incidence of events in cities. To achieve this, it relies on a qualitative and exploratory methodology, analysis and theoretical framework related to morphology and urban networks at different scales, the concepts of climate risk, vulnerability, adaptability, climate resilience and regional design as a field from the which national and international planning paradigms will be discussed. As results, it is expected to verify the central argument in order to build a hypothesis that involves urban and regional aspects, as well as the interdependencies caused by the infrastructures responsible for their integration.
