Abstract

Aquaculture is a widely diversified sector that is constantly expanding, with Brazil beingthe 8th largest producer in this sector and Nile tilapia being the most produced species inParaná and São Paulo, respectively. However, obstacles such as the establishment ofpathogens previously not described in the country, such as the infectious spleen andkidney necrosis virus (ISKNV), need to be overcome. The use of vaccines, especiallythose of the new generation and easy administration like the recombinant oraladministration vaccine, are intriguing strategies to prevent economic losses caused by thisinfectious agent to the herd; acting as an alternative form of protection against specificagents. In view of this, the present work will seek to develop and evaluate theimmunogenicity of a vaccine based on the Lactobacillus casei vector expressing the MCPof the Brazilian strain of ISKNV.
