Abstract

Adequate root canal filling is essential for successful endodontic treatment and may be influenced by the sealer used. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is an important resource in assessing the quality of root canal filling, but artifacts may compromise the clarity of images for diagnostic purposes. Volumetric distortion artifacts may be influenced by the CBCT device, as well as by the density of the filling material. The aim of this study is to compare the quality of filling of oval root canals using resin or bioceramic-based sealers, in addition to the influence of different CBCT devices and the blooming artifact reduction (BAR) filter integrated into the e-Vol DX software (CDT, Bauru, São Paulo, Brazil) in the evaluation of filling materials. After approval by the Research Ethics Committee of FOAr-UNESP (CAAE: 41916720.7.0000.5416), 20 mandibular central incisors with long oval root canals were prepared using Reciproc Blue R40 and filled with AH Plus Jet or Bio-C Sealer (n = 10 each). The samples were scanned with VeraView X800 and OP300 Maxio CBCT devices, as well as by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) to be used as reference. The micro-CT images will be reconstructed and analyzed for the root canal filling capacity provided by each sealer. A dimensional analysis will be performed on the root canals filled by each sealer, in the images obtained with both CBCT devices, comparing them before and after the application of the BAR filter. The micro-CT images will be used as the gold standard. Subsequently, the data will be evaluated statistically (¿ = 0.05). (AU)
