Impact of specific toothpaste for composite resin and porcelain vs. conventional in the roughness and optical characteristics of composite resin for CAD/CAM after simulated brushing associated with coffee immersion

Abstract

It is essential to understand the impact of specific dentifrices for composite resin and porcelain veneers on the roughness and removal of pigmenting agents in CAD/CAM resins in order to determine their potential benefit in the long-term clinical success of these restorations. Given the above, the objective of this study will be to evaluate the efficiency of a specific dentifrice for composite resin and porcelain veneers in comparison with a conventional dentifrice, on the surfaces of a CAD/CAM resin, analyzing its impact on roughness (Ra) and optical characteristics (color change (¿E00), translucency (TP) and contrast (CR)), after simulated brushing associated with immersion in coffee. Thirty specimens (n=10) of 5×5×2mm will be obtained, which will be divided into three groups, according to the solution used for simulated brushing: Ad (distilled water - control), Dc (conventional dentifrice) and De (specific dentifrice for composite resin and porcelain veneers). Each group will be subjected to five in vitro aging cycles, with each cycle simulating one year of aging and consisting of: 60 hours of immersion in instant coffee (2g in 200 mL of boiling water - Nescafé Original, Nestlé) and 10,000 simulated brushing cycles. The specimens will initially be immersed for the determined time in the coffee immersion cycle, subsequently dried and then subjected to simulated brushing. The analysis times will be at 2 levels: T0 - after 24 h stored in distilled water at 37°C (baseline) and T1 - after E+I. The quantitative data obtained in each analysis will be subjected to the normality test and subsequently to the most appropriate statistical test, with a significance level of 5%.
