Abstract

Background: Chronic clinical manifestations associated with ankle sprains can lead to a reduced confidence in individuals' physical abilities, resulting in lower participation in sports and recreational activities. Additionally, the pain and functional limitations linked to this injury may contribute to a sedentary lifestyle. Understanding and identifying potential differences in physical activity (PA) levels and sedentary behavior (SB) among individuals with and without a history of ankle sprains can help in developing intervention strategies to enhance their quality of life and prevent further complications, promoting a more active lifestyle.Aim: To assess and compare PA levels and SB in adults with and without a history of ankle sprains.Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in which participants will be divided into two groups: (i) individuals with a history of ankle sprain and (ii) individuals without a history of ankle sprain. The study procedures will include anamnesis and assessment of PA levels and SB through both objective (accelerometer) and subjective (questionnaires) methods. The clinical characterization of ankle sprains will be conducted using the International Ankle Consortium and the Cumberland Ankle Instability Tool. Data normality will be assessed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, and group comparisons will be performed using an independent t-test or its non-parametric equivalent. A significance level of 5% will be adopted. (AU)
