Abstract

This master's project aims to research the political vocabulary used in the Gazeta da Restauração (1641-1647) and Mercurio Portuguez (1663-1666), focusing on revolts, rebellions, insurrections, uprisings and what we understand today as revolutions. Therefore, we aim to investigate how acts of political rupture are reported in these periodicals, seeking to map their semantic field during the Restoration Wars and the efforts to reestablish a Portuguese dynasty. The question is whether it would be possible to identify the emergence of a lexicon on the Revolution through the analysis of the semantic field used in Gazeta and Mercúrio. This research is based on the Conceptual History methodology, which will serve as an instrument for reflecting upon the relationship between language and historical facts.
