Abstract

Industrial automation and logistics is a topic that has been gaining more space in contemporary society, due to its great potential to transform processes, optimize operations and reduce costs. Within this scenario, automated inventory management and control emerge as current and effective solutions, being capable of improving precision, increasing operational efficiency and minimizing waste.Therefore, this Scientific Initiation project proposes the development of an autonomous object counting system in industrial environments, using a mobile robot equipped with an onboard camera. Based on a previously performed mapping, the mobile robot will navigate autonomously to the location of interest using Navigation 2 (Nav2), a package of the robotic software called ROS, ensuring safe and efficient movement to the predetermined points. During navigation, the robot will capture images from its built-in camera and these will undergo a processing stage using the YOLO algorithm. This technology, based on neural networks, will identify and classify the detected objects, allowing them to be counted according to the identified class. This result will be stored on the embedded computer and published in a ROS topic. Thus, this solution has great potential to optimize logistics processes, eliminating human errors, reducing costs and improving operational efficiency. (AU)
