Abstract

The modernization of the Brazilian electric sector requires technologies that increase the efficiency, reliability and interoperability of automation systems. The IEC 61850 standard, widely used in the automation of electrical substations, still faces challenges for its adoption in Brazil, due to the lack of technical training and applied studies. Given this scenario, this work aims to investigate the application of the IEC 61850 standard in Brazilian substations, analyzing its technical feasibility and evaluating the benefits and challenges of its adoption. To this end, a study is proposed that combines theoretical review and simulations in a virtual environment, exploring the main communication protocols of the standard. The implementation of the IEC 61850 standard protocols in simulated systems will allow the comparative analysis and identification of solutions in applications in the automation of protection systems for substations. The results will contribute to the understanding and application of the standard in the national electric sector, promoting its adoption and strengthening the integration between academic research and industry.
