Abstract

Despite significant advancements in wound healing, challenges persist due to the stringent regulatory requirements for achieving complete healing, as mandated by agencies like the FDA. This hurdle limits progress in treating chronic wounds, particularly for patients with comorbidities such as diabetes or kidney failure, who face additional complications in the healing process.Consequently, research into novel biomaterials and drugs that enhance wound healing is crucial. These studies often involve bioactive agents like biopolymers, proteins, and angiogenic factors. One promising biomaterial is fibroin, a silk protein produced by the silkworm Bombyx mori. Fibroin can be transformed into porous solids, films, or gels, which exhibit high biocompatibility, slow degradability, and promote cell adhesion. These gels are physically compatible with creams used in healing products.Another bioactive compound being introduced into these creams is NO-generating compounds, such as sodium nitroprusside, which possess angiogenic properties and enhance cell proliferation. In this study, creams containing silk fibroin and sodium nitroprusside will be formulated, and their viability and ability to stimulate fibroblast cell growth will be evaluated in vitro. The results will assess whether the proliferative effects are synergized when these components are combined. The findings will be presented at conferences and scientific meetings and may be published in specialized scientific journals.
