Abstract

The virulent Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) poses a significant threat to global poultry production due to its high transmissibility, letality, and economic impact. This project proposes the development of a lateral flow immunochromatographic test for the rapid differentiation between virulent and non-virulent isolates, contributing to immediate outbreak response. Additionally, it aims to genetically characterize emerging variants through complete viral genome sequencing, enabling the identification of mutations associated with pathogenicity. Risk analysis of NDV introduction and dissemination in São Paulo state will be conducted based on molecular, serological, and epidemiological data, guiding biosecurity strategies. Integrated approaches involving molecular biology, bioinformatics, and epidemiology will generate essential data to strengthen surveillance, disease control, and the protection of Brazilian poultry farming, a sector of global significance.
