Posterior implant-supported single prostheses in printed composite resin: result of a year of prospective case series

Abstract

Single implant-supported fixed prostheses replace lost dental elements in a fixed way, and can be planned using CAD (Computed aided design) software and manufactured through additive manufacturing with hybrid composite resin. Scientific studies that evaluate parameters correlated to the prosthesis, implant, and peri-implant tissues when using implant-supported printed composite resin prostheses are scarce. The objective of the present study is to evaluate, through a series of prospective cases over 1 year, the use of resin printed composite resin for the manufacture of posterior implant-supported single prostheses, regarding implant survival, prosthetic and peri-implant outcomes. Participants will be included with an edentulous region corresponding to a missing tooth, with sufficient bone to allow the installation of an implant at least 7 mm in length and 3.5 mm in diameter. After 4 to 6 months, the prosthesis will be made using hybrid composite resin (VarseoSmile Crown plus, BEGO) on a straight titanium base. Peri-implant clinical parameters, peri-implant bone loss, incidence of peri-implant diseases, survival of implant and prostheses, modified USPHS index, percentage of technical complications, data related to implant osseointegration, and occlusal wear analysis will be evaluated. In addition, participant satisfaction will be assessed, using a Visual Analogue Scale, and the quality of life related to oral health, using the Oral Health Impact Profile questionnaire (OHIP-14). Statistical analysis will be carried out with a significance level of 5%. Quantitative variables will be evaluated using the normality test, with the appropriate statistical test being applied.
