Abstract

Cities are responsible for more than half of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet data on the concentrations of these compounds, especially in cities of the Global South, remain limited. In São Paulo, the largest metropolitan area in the Southern Hemisphere, a greenhouse gas monitoring network was established in 2020 as part of the METROCLIMA thematic project (www.metroclima.iag.usp.br), funded by FAPESP (Project 2016/18438-0). Five locations were strategically selected, with four focused on surface measurements of CO2 and CH4 (IAG, UNICID, ICESP, and Pico do Jaraguá) - one of which is equipped for C13 isotope analysis (IAG) - and one dedicated to measuring CO2 flux in a vegetated area (CIENTEC). This undergraduate research project aims to evaluate the annual variability, from 2020 to 2024, of CO2 concentrations at three measurement sites: Pico do Jaraguá, IAG, and UNICID. The results will be compared with global values published by the WMO, which are based on measurements from various locations worldwide. (AU)
