Abstract

This scientific initiation project aims to contribute to the spatial characterization of the Vale do Guaporé (in the state of Rondônia) and Vale do Jari (in the state of Amapá) regions, investigating the existing socio-environmental conditions and the current challenges faced by some traditional Amazonian communities in the regions, in order to propose socio-environmental sustainability guidelines for the management of their territories. The communities of the Guaporé Valley (RO) and the Jari Valley (AP) include riverside communities, extractivists and quilombolas, who are subject to several conflicts related to territorial management and the expansion of several impactful productive activities. The research revolves around the spatial characterization of the territory, to be carried out through the use of geographic information system tools, and the socio-environmental diagnosis of the communities, with the identification of situations and challenges of territorial and environmental management, which will occur through interviews applied to the residents of the communities studied. The assessments of the identified pressures and existing threats will be analyzed using the SWOT method (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) in order to compose an overview of the challenges and priorities of territorial management. The results of the research are intended to collaborate and offer strategies and guidelines for the implementation of appropriate actions for territorial management of these regions, aiming at the full sustainable and self-sufficient socio-environmental development of the communities studied.
