Abstract

This research aims to understand the female presence in Brazilian Urban Geography. As it is a broad topic, we selected the two postgraduate programs in geography at the University of São Paulo (USP), comparing and analyzing the production of dissertations and theses between 1942 and 1980. These choices were made because we were interested in focusing on the first generations of female geographers in the first postgraduate programs in Brazil. The methodology adopted will be twofold: I) the construction of a database, through which we will carry out the following operational procedures: search, selection and analysis of titles, abstracts, keywords and bibliographic references of the works in the repositories of the Sucupira Platform, Dedalus Collection and Capes Catalog of Dissertations and Theses; and II) data analysis procedures based on the historical-documentary method of Gamboa (1987), the biographical and autobiographical approach of Buttimer (1987, 2001) and Moss, 2001), and intersectionality (Davis, 2016; Collins and Bilge, 2016; Collins, 2022; Eaves, Al-Hindi, 2022) as interpretive aids. With the results achieved, we hope to contribute to the implementation of Law 14.986 of 2024, which makes it compulsory to study the contributions of women to humanity in the curricula of primary and secondary education in public and private schools in Brazil from 2025.
