Abstract

The inappropriate use of antimicrobials has contributed to the emergence of bacterial resistance mechanisms, making the treatment of infections increasingly challenging. The analysis of susceptibility profiles of clinical isolates and the understanding of infections affecting patients of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) is essential for monitoring antimicrobial resistance. This study aims to epidemiologically characterize the resistance profiles found in bacteria isolated from clinical samples of patients treated by the SUS in the region of Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, between 2018 and 2023. Data will be obtained from laboratory reports issued by the microbiology sector of Unoeste's clinical laboratory, including all cultures performed during the period, regardless of sample type or result. Resistance profiles will be identified based on antibiogram results. Prevalence will be calculated as the proportion of resistant isolates about the total number of processed samples, and associations with clinical variables will be assessed using the chi-square test (p ¿ 0.05). The results are expected to provide an overview of local antimicrobial resistance and help identify more susceptible populations, contributing to developing strategies for preventing and controlling infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria.
