Abstract

The Early-Middle Devonian biotic crises (Zlíchov, Daleje and Chote¿) were driven by paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic factors, as well as eustatic oscillations of the sea, impacting the marine fauna on a regional and global scale. The Paraná Basin hosted a brachiopod fauna with a high degree of generic endemism and low specific diversity, the Malvinoxhosan fauna. Ichnological and geochemical studies have already indicated the presence of Zlíchov, Daleje and Chote¿ in the Paraná Basin, but it is necessary to also investigate the brachiopod fauna, due to its paleontological and paleoenvironmental importance. Thus, this project seeks to recognize the biotic crises that affected the brachiopod fauna in the Paraná Basin during the Early-Middle Devonian. For this purpose, linear morphometry and sclerochronology will be applied to specimens of the genera Australocoelia and Orbiculoidea for better visualization of these global events. (AU)
