Abstract

This project aims to investigate the management of water rounds in Colombia, taking Bogotá and, in particular, the Fucha River as a reference. Through the analysis of land use and forms of government intervention along this watercourse, we seek to understand public management strategies for the conservation of these areas in the Colombian urban context. The proposal seeks to establish a comparative dialogue with the Brazilian reality, with the study of Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs), in accordance with the Forest Code (Law No. 12,651 of 2012), being developed through the PPA Conservation and Recovery Program in the city of São Paulo, of which this researcher is a member. This research is part of the Water Territories project, which seeks, through a geographical perspective, to identify a proposed typology for PPAs, elucidating from the Colombian experience of the use and management of urban rivers, which may be relevant to the Brazilian experience. This research seeks to understand the functioning of urban riverbanks, focusing primarily on the role of public actors in these processes, considering local specificities and the population's relationship with these spaces. Therefore, this Research Internship Abroad Project seeks to complement the theoretical and methodological efforts developed during the postdoctoral research (FAPESP Grant No. 2024/05713-0). In general terms, our methodology will consist of interviews with key actors and a critical review of bibliographical material on the topics addressed, including public policy analysis. We will also participate in various activities at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana to support the development of the project, and will conduct fieldwork and technical visits to organizations involved in watershed management in Bogotá.
