Abstract

The Capitoline Triad is made up of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. The origins of their worship are believed to have been influenced by the Etruscans, although the deities themselves are Italic. There is no specific festival dedicated to the Capitoline Triad in the Roman calendar, which suggests that the cult of these deities was created after this date, since they were such important gods for the Romans. By analyzing various artifacts, such as coins, statues, busts, reliefs and icons, it will be possible to observe the different archaeological representations of the Triad in various archaeological contexts, revealing the different meanings attributed to these images over time. The sample is made up of 18 archaeological objects dating from the 2nd century B.C.E. to the 3rd century C.E. and located mainly in central Italy. It also includes two objects from Germania, which will serve as a comparison. The sample will be divided into two groups according to the difference in support, one group being religious objects and the other monetary. An iconographic analysis will be carried out, which will allow data from both groups to be cross-referenced: religious objects and monetary objects, allowing an iconographic analysis that will make it possible to compare and study the importance of variation in support for the meaning of the Capitoline Triad throughout the period in question.
