Abstract

This project aims to deepen the theoretical and experimental understanding of nonlinear photonic systems based on integrated microresonators, focusing on spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB), soliton states and squeezed light generation through four-wave mixing (FWM). Building on the candidate's previous work with coupled-mode models and the Lugiato-Lefever equation (LLE), the project will extend these tools to incorporate parasitic resonant modes and photonic molecule geometries, enabling more accurate simulations of complex cavity dynamics aligned with ongoing experimental results.The project will also involve designing and characterizing photonic molecules optimized for SSB and squeezing, bridging theoretical insight with fabrication constraints at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL). A planned BEPE internship will support experimental validation of simulation results and inform future device design.Ultimately, this research will contribute to the development of robust, quantum-compatible photonic platforms. It will provide the candidate with advanced training in nonlinear optics and integrated photonics while supporting the broader goals of our group in quantum information and low-noise metrology. (AU)
