Abstract

Dengue poses an increasing challenge to global public health, with a significant rise in disease incidence. Brazil, in particular, is one of the most affected countries, with a substantial impact on the global scenario. The disease is caused by one of the four serotypes of the dengue virus (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4), primarily transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Factors such as climate change, rapid urbanization, and intense population flows contribute to the spread of the virus and the emergence of variants. In this context, genomic surveillance is an essential tool for monitoring viral evolution and supporting control strategies. This project aims to carry out the sequencing and genomic monitoring of DENV serotypes in the central region of the state of São Paulo, using next-generation sequencing (NGS). Samples testing positive for DENV will be processed and sequenced. The data generated will be analyzed using bioinformatics tools to assess sequence quality and identify mutations, lineages, or circulating variants. The genomic sequences will be submitted to the GISAID database to support the global sharing of genomic and epidemiological data. Through this, we expect to observe the genetic variation of the viruses over the course of one year, identifying potential mutations and variants that may impact the dynamics and epidemiology of the disease. Furthermore, the project will contribute to strengthening genomic surveillance, thereby promoting more effective public health actions in addressing dengue. (AU)
