Abstract

The Research, Innovation and Dissemination Centers for Redox Processes in Biomedicine (RIDC Redoxoma), based at the Institute of Chemistry of the University of São Paulo, has stood out for its significant contributions to the field of redox processes applied to health. The network is composed of 30 research groups, including internationally recognized scientists, who investigate the redox mechanisms involved in maintaining cellular homeostasis and the development of various pathologies, with an emphasis on human degenerative diseases, such as cardiovascular, metabolic, infectious/inflammatory diseases, and those influenced by environmental factors. One of the pillars of RIDC Redoxoma's mission is the transfer of scientific knowledge to society through educational and outreach activities linked to its education and diffusion plan. Communicating Redoxoma's advances to the general public is therefore essential, especially considering that the Brazilian population shows interest in science and technology, with health-related topics being among the most searched. In this context, this project proposes the production of science communication videos about recent research developed within Redoxoma. The content will be created from interviews with researchers from the center, translating complex concepts into language accessible to the general public, while maintaining scientific accuracy. The interviews will be guided by semi-structured scripts, developed based on prior study of the interviewees' work, allowing for an in-depth exploration of topics most relevant to the audience. The video production will pay special attention to the use of terms and jargon, aiming to simplify them through analogies, comparisons, and approximations, as well as revealing the process of building scientific knowledge and the scientists' journeys, demystifying science and its protagonists. Six interviews will be conducted in a studio, with audiovisual recordings that will undergo editing and assembly, utilizing narrative techniques typical of science communication. The videos will be made available on the RIDC Redoxoma YouTube channel, aiming to expand Brazilian society's access to high-quality scientific knowledge, promoting engagement with issues of great relevance to public health.
