Abstract

In 2024, a global average temperature above 1.5°C was recorded for the first time, with the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere reaching an increase of 151% compared to pre-industrial levels. The increase in this greenhouse gas (GHG) causes an imbalance in the global climate system. As a response to mitigate the effects of climate change, possible solutions for mitigating CO2 emissions are being developed, including Bioenergy-associated Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) technology, an important contributor to Brazil's decarbonization and energy transition plan by 2035. This project aims to map geological features that define possible reservoirs for storing CO2 in the Paraná Basin, specifically in the southern region of the state of São Paulo, where the country's main stationary emission sources are located, including ethanol plants. 3D geological models of the possible reservoirs identified will be generated by integrating the interpretations of 2D seismic sections with well data, which will make it possible to determine theoretical CO2 storage capacity, applying the most modern implicit modeling techniques and following the best international practices for CO2 storage calculations.
