Abstract

The applicability of an HM-forming alloy is directly linked to its pressure-composition-temperature (PCT) diagram. Significant advances in the design of multicomponent HM-forming alloys have been achieved thanks to the development and implementation of computational thermodynamic models for PCT diagram calculations. However, hysteresis in the pressure-composition-isotherm (PCI) curves can negatively impact the use of these alloys in some applications. One of the objectives of this regular research project is to incorporate the hysteresis phenomenon into existing thermodynamic models. The developed thermodynamic model will be tested and validated by comparing it with experimental PCT diagram data reported in the literature and with four alloys experimentally investigated in this project. This scientific initiation project aims to design, using the CALPHAD method, together with the thermodynamic calculations already developed, one of the four compositions of these alloys, designated Alloy 1, which will be synthesized, structurally characterized, and have its PCT diagram experimentally measured.
