Abstract

The development of quantum technologies plays a prominent role in society. That is clear from the possible advantages in solving complex problems with respect to the classical methods available. Nevertheless, the causes of quantum advantages are not so well understood in general. The resources behind advantages should be in unique quantum phenomena, and hence, the understanding of the classical-quantum separation becomes a fundamental issue. This research proposal aims to shed light on how quantum processes behave as classical. In particular, we propose a novel perspective on how to quantify classicality in a system-environment dynamics as formulated by quantum Darwinism. Our approach is based upon the methods of the theory of quantum metrology, and has the particular feature of assessing classicality from the redundancy in the precision of estimation of a parameter initially available in the system by the results of local quantum measurements on several subsystems of the environment. Our project aims to find how non-Markovian effects is related to the emergence of classicality in quantum processes.
