| Associated research grant: | 24/00875-1 - Effects of a physical training program associated with behavior change strategies on motivation for physical exercise in individuals with COPD: a randomized clinical trial, AP.R |
Abstract Introduction: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is characterized by persistent airflow limitation and respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea and fatigue, resulting from multifactorial causes, with smoking being the main etiological factor. In addition to clinical manifestations, COPD is associated with reduced physical exercise. However, it is unclear how much the impact of the disease affects exercise motivation in COPD patients. Objectives: General: To determine whether there is an association between disease impact and exercise motivation in COPD patients. Specific: To compare exercise motivation across different COPD Assessment Test (CAT) scores. Methodology: A prospective cross-sectional study will be conducted in COPD patients. Participant recruitment will be conducted by inviting patients attending healthcare services in the city of São Carlos, who are under medical supervision and meet the project's inclusion and exclusion criteria. Participants will be assessed on a single day, scheduled in advance via WhatsApp business. Anthropometric, clinical, and lung function data will be collected. Participants' motivational profile will be assessed using the Behavioral Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire (BREQ-3), and the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) will be used to assess the impact of the disease on exercise motivation. Expected results: We hope to identify the association between the impact of COPD on exercise motivation, as well as differences in motivational profile according to the severity of the disease's impact.
