Abstract

This undergraduate research project investigates the application of Variational Quantum Classifiers (VQC) for the detection of arrhythmia and myocardial infarction in electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. A study of the foundations of quantum computing (qubits, composite states, gates, and circuits) and practical learning of the Qiskit and PennyLane frameworks will be conducted. The research will explore classical data encoding methods and the development of parameterized quantum circuit architectures (ansatz) for quantum machine learning (QML). Variational classifier prototypes will be developed, and their performance will be evaluated against classical baseline models, such as SVM and MLP. The comparative analysis will consider metrics such as accuracy, F1-score, and AUROC, while also assessing the impact of noise and decoherence on model performance using simulators of NISQ-era devices.
