Abstract

In the 50's, after the World War II, Japan was facing difficulties. The Toyota Motor Co, then, developed a production system aiming the quality improvement and cost reduction. Techniques such as small batches production, setup and stock reduction, focus in quality and elimination of non-value added activities, made the Toyota Production System (TPS) philosophy (also known as Lean Manufacturing) become an example followed by organizations worldwide. This study aims to apply a field research to identify, among the companies of the region of Bauru, the level of adoption of some techniques known as fundamental aspects of Lean Manufacturing. For that purpose, this work will be developed according to the survey method and a structured and closed answer questionnaire will be used as an instrument for collecting data.
