Abstract

This research project proposes the study of two kinds of market mechanisms for the electricity generation sector, aiming to make a general comparative analysis of the efficiency among these mechanisms. The objective is to study the centralized market structures (typical of monopolized or state-owned systems) and the markets with pool-bilateral structures (usually observed in modern restructured systems, in which there is competition in the electricity generation). For this purpose, optimization algorithms will be developed to simulate the market conditions. From the obtained results, a general comparison between these market structures will be made, allowing a better undestanding of both structures and some general conclusions about them.
