Abstract

Loss of pulmonary aeration, which is characterized by development of atelectasia and partially collapsed areas and pulmonary edema, represent high incidence complications in cardiac surgery post-operative period, being responsible for a longer time in mechanic ventilation, a greater incidence of respiratory infection, mortality and an increase in costs. As described by Puybasset and col. is possible to quantify the lost of aeration and pulmonary edema caused by the anesthetic-surgical procedure using helicoidal computed tomography. The purpose of this study is to quantify the lost of aeration and pulmonary edema after cardiac surgery comparing with the pre-operative values, as well as the alterations in respiratory exchanges.
