Abstract

Microlepidogaster Eigenmann & Eigenmann, 1889 is current known based on an unique species, M. perforatus, from the rio Carandai, Upper Rio Paraná system, its type species. Various other species, anteriorly inside the genus, were transferred to other Hypoptopomatinae genera by anterior authors. Recent collections in some small streams of the rio Paranaíba presented some morphological differences when compared to M. perforatus. Project aims to compare Microlepidogaster specimens from the Upper Paraná and to diagnose and describe all recognized species.
