Abstract

The aim of this project is to initiate the researcher into the theatrical studies, specifically into the study of the dramatic work of the Brazilian southerner writer José Joaquim de Campos Leão, best known as Qorpo-Santo (1829-1883). We will look into the way the problem of the dissociated identity reflects upon the construction of the comic characters by this 18th century playwright - characters noticeably ambiguous that seem to unfold themselves systematically, taking over several masks that confuse the reader/viewer - and also the way this formal procedure - the dissociation of everything that is united - infiltrates into the very structure of his dramatic text and scenic language (reflecting, for example, on the scenery construction, costume design, etc).
