Abstract

The objective of this project is the development and application of computational methods to study the development of neurons and glias. The main motivation of this study is to gain new insights about the relationship between shape, function and gene expression in these cells. The analysis will be made through the use of microscopy images of biological samples, captured in two and three dimensions, to which image processing, shape analysis and computer visualization routines will be applied. Therefore, it will be possible to characterize the morphologic and gene expression aspects in neurons and glias and correlate these features with the development and function of these cells.
