Abstract

Cerrado is comprised by a group of different physiognomies, from grassland until forest vegetation types. Fire is a very important ecological factor affecting vegetation dynamics. Therefore, studies about the effects of fire on vegetation dynamics and diversity cannot be ignored. Although it is a very polemic issue, fire is still used to stimulate resprouting for cattle raising. Moreover, it is used as a tool on the management of some species, such as "capim dourado". This species plays an important role on the local economy of Jalapão region, which is based on handcraft production. This proposal aims to evaluate the effects of fire on vegetation dynamics of "campo úmido" (wetlands) and "campo limpo" (grassland physiognomy) from Cerrado at the Parque Estadual do Jalapão, using plant functional types analyses based on plant traits and the spatial analyses. Therefore, up-to-date methods of vegetation analyses will be applied, as well as the elaboration of a data bank of plant traits. The spatial analysis is an excellent tool to detect aggregation patterns and thus, it will be performed in order to evaluate the effect of fire on species and plant functional types distribution and degree of clustering in Cerrado vegetation. As a result, this proposal intends to fill in the gap in studies about fire in Brazilian vegetation, using modern and ecologically relevant tools. (AU)
