Abstract

The control of contamination and infection in the Health area is extremely important, mainly due to the increase of the number of immunosuppressed patients. Biomaterials are compounds that have the property to interact with the tissue providing a high level of cohesion of its particles. Some dental procedures make use of materials in need of information about the contamination level and of the contaminant microorganisms. Unfortunately, not so much attention has been spent with the contamination of dental materials during the manufacturing and handling process, which is a very concerning fact face to the predisposal situation to opportune infections. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the level of contamination and the contaminant microorganisms of the biosilicate, a bioglass in study to be used on the dental practice. To sum up we expect to be able to provide necessary information for the establishment of preventive actions for the control of infection and elimination of contamination from this dental material.
