Abstract

The higher incidence of chronic degenerative disorders of tissues, diseases that prevent healing of tissue or organs damaged in accidents, tumor and infections have increased the number os researches for bio-stimulating healing speed and improvement of their quality, especially bone tissue. Studies involving different areas are trying to produce biomaterials that induce bone healing. Ideally, these biomaterials present physical and chemical properties similar to the tissue, such as hydrophilicity, elasticity, strength and disposition of electric charges, as well as the ability to induce and/or lead to cell proliferation in the implanted area. Some of the bioactive materials commonly used to induce bone healing will be studied in this work, such as the ceramics hydroxyapatite (HA) and tricalcium phosphate-² (²-TCP), and the polymers poly L-lactide (PLLA), poly ethylene glycol (PEG) and polycaprolactone (PCL), evaluating their ability to induce healing in tibiae of 24 male rabbits in experimental periods of 3, 7, 14 and 30 days. The animals will be euthanized by the end of each period, the tibias radiographed and submitted to simple visual radiographic analysis, the results are compared afterwards. Keywords: bone regeneration, bioactive materials, radiography.
