Abstract

Previous studies showed that the presence of electrostatic charges on particles to be removed has been a factor that contributes significantly to the performance of the filter, both in increasing the collection efficiency and the reduction of pressure drop filter (Coury, 1983; For Duarte, 1995, 2005 and Mello Rodrigues 2007). This study aims to evaluate the effect of the level of charges present in the particles, generated by corona charging, in the collection efficiency and pressure drop in filters of polypropylene, polyester, acrylic and cellulose. Polarity will be monitored, the level of charge on the particles, the size and concentration, and measuring the pressure drop in the filter during filtration. From the results obtained, will intend to evaluate the performance of the filter operating in the removal of electrostatically charged particles, both as regards the collection efficiency at the stage of particle-collector interaction (initial efficiency) and during the formation and growth of deposit of collected particles (cake formation). As "tools" aids, statistical techniques and computer programs will be used for graphing, analysis and verification of the results of the effects of significant variables.
