Abstract

We know that playing it is a basic process for the development of some abilities in first infancy. The Occupational Therapy for studying and acting on making human being, if it uses of playing as resource and also as therapeutical object. The evaluation of the playful behavior is necessary in the direction where it propitiates the analysis of playing (which supplies information on the cognitive, motor and social abilities of the child) and the elaboration of a treatment plan. Therefore an instrument that evaluates playing is extremely important and necessary. An instrument to be used in a new country or culture, needs to be translated, to be adapted and later validated guaranteeing it legitimacy of its content. This research presents as objective to give to beginning to the process of adaptation and validation of Revised Knox Preschool Play Scale (Preschool Play Scale-PPS, Knox, 1997). To reach such objective 45 children without motor, sensorial and cognitive damages will participate of this research divided in 3 groups in the following age bands: the 24 30 months, the 30 36 months and the 36 48 months. The collection of data for the validation of the scale will be made through filming of the children, in two spaces previously organized (open and closed), for presentation of the playful behavior, which will be analyzed through four dimensions: space Management, Material Management, Pretense/Symbolic and participation. The data, for validation of the scale, will suffer to analysis statistics to verify the reliability from the instrument how much to the validity and consistency. (AU)
