Abstract

In this project, a system to measure the electron temperature through Thomson scattering will be developed for the TCABR tokamak. The system will be based upon a Nd-glass laser (wavelength = 1054 nm), with 30J maximunm energy and 20 ns pulse duration. The laser and the principal components of the system have been provided by the "Centro de Fusão Nuclear", of "Instituto Superior Técnico", Lisbon, within a collaboration agreement between that Institute and the "Instituto de Física" of "Universidade de São Paulo". The system will be initially employed to determine the plasma heating by absorption of Alfvén waves, to confirm preliminary results of previous experiments, in which the temperature increase was determined through the cyclotron emission of electrons.
