Abstract

The biotechnology industry currently has the use and production of enzymes as one of its sectors of greatest interest, since this is an alternative to replace chemical processes, which usually are harmful to the environment. But the industrial use of enzymes is limited to some sectors mainly due to its high cost of obtaining and purification. An alternative to this would be to obtain enzymes from microorganisms in fermentation processes, and its use raw, or directly from the culture filtrate. Keratinases are proteolytic enzymes that degrade keratin and are produced by several microorganisms, including Trichophyton sp., Bacillus sp. and Streptomyces sp. The main applications of keratinolytic enzymes are currently the treatment of leather, elimination of acne, skin bleaching and synthesis of fertilizer and water treatment. The project goal is to study the main factors that influence the production of keratinases experimentally in an orbital shaker and bioreactor, efficient equipment for the fermentation process, since in them it is possible control the pH, temperature, aeration and agitation, and thereby increasing production.
