Abstract

The research consists of the study of the industrial development of the city of Sumaré using the analysis of the urban planning for the city since the decade of 1970 as a starting point. It studies the spaces constituted for industrial occupation along the last 30 years, including its genesis and its expansion, supported by the expansion of the railways first and later by the roads and also the influence of the development of the Campinas region on the city os Sumaré. The studied area is the Anhanguera road axis where it was created a great traffic flux of commuters. The industrial areas, active or inactive, and the buildings related to the various periods of industrialization of the region are the objects of the study. We also want to understand the processes that occurred in the consolidated urban areas of the city of Sumaré as a consequence of the incentive to the establishment of industries along the roads, as a contribution for the discussion on the reversion of the productive activities and the recuperation of the lost urban character.
