Abstract

Resveratrol (3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene) is a polyphenol found in some plants and fruits whose effect is associated with prevention of osteoporosis due to its structural similarity to estrogen molecule. However, the mechanism by which resveratrol promotes beneficial effects remains unclear in some aspects. This study will evaluate the effects of resveratrol in young adult ovariectomized rats in the prevention of osteoporosis. The experimental model used is the animal (Wistar rats) were divided into three groups: intact (INT) with 10 intact animals, the control ovariectomized group (OVX) at 10 ovariectomized animals, ovariectomized + resveratrol group (OVX + RES) with 10 animals ovariectomized treated with resveratrol intraperitoneally (0.7 mg / kg Body Mass, 7 times per week for 12 weeks. We will analyze biometric, biophysical, biomechanical and microtomography bone parameters. It will calculate the bone volume, and from this parameter of bone density will be determined. Biomechanical properties of femurs will be obtained by the three points bending test and the lumbar vertebrae obtained by bone compression test. Lumbar vertebrae are used to perform the microtomography analysis.
