Abstract

Ovine are considered efficient on changing grass into products for human consumption. Sheep milk is highly nutritious, rarely being consumed as liquid. Because of its composition, it is rather used for making cheese and yogurt. Mastitis is one of the greatest impediments to milk tap, once it causes economic losses due to a reduction in milk production, alterations of its main components and abridgement of animals’ productive life, due to the compromise of the affected mammary gland. Besides, this infection represents a risk to consumer’s health because it can be a vehicle of agents of zoonosis. Recently, the interest on mastitis has increased when it comes to meat production flocks, because the illness can cause decrease in weight gain of lambs and increase in mortality. The aim of this work is to diagnose the main agents causing subclinical mastitis in ewes from Sheep Production Sector at Edgardia Farm – UNESP, Botucatu Campus and evaluate in vitro antibiotic susceptibility of the agents found face to different antibiotic, following the animals all the lactation long.
